According to my Airbnb timeline, my first night at Club Lespri Sri Lanka was on the 21st of December, 2014. That’s about three years back and I can still recall just about every detail of the resort.
And I think that’s one of the coolest things about travelling solo – you tend to be more aware of your surroundings, you pay more attention and you actually make a conscious effort to talk to people.
Now two things to keep in mind – Club Lespri Sri Lanka is situated in Kandy, on top of a hill and the time I travelled was December, so that’s a good week into the monsoon season.
First impressions: I’m going to be honest, on the way to the resort you’re going to be really scared especially cause there’s a lot of impromptu twists and turns. That’s why I suggest you reach the resort by 10am-11am.
The Staff: I kid you not, this is probably the sweetest staff I’ve come across. When I would go off on a detour, the manager would actually call me to check-up on me like he was my dad. We ended up going on long walks in the rain and I even spoke to his wife and kids on the phone. I mean, that’s a whole lot of sugar.
The Resort: The view is breathtaking. If you can get up by about 5am you can watch the fog clear out and get a clear glimpse of Adam’s Peak. This is also the best time for any slow-mo fog videos. Don’t even get me started on the bathrooms and the master bedroom – picture perfect!
They’ve got some really good packages whereby you can travel with a personal driver and check-out the local museums, temples, cultural dances etc. I opted for the temple package and I was quite happy with it.
The Food: If you love South Indian food in general, then you’re going to love Sri Lankan food. It’s spicy, but it’s damn good. Quick tip -the portions are always big so if it’s just you and another person then order a meal for one.
