Sri Lanka is a beautiful country. It’s a tropical paradise, it has got the best food, best people and good vibes only. In this piece, I’m going to share some tips and pointers so that you can plan your trip to Sri Lanka in a way that suits you best.
I lived in Sri Lanka for two whole weeks and visited the beaches, the city and the mountains so I’ll put down a fair idea as to what you should be expecting vs. what you can actually do.
Okay, now I’ll shut up and get to the main point which is:
Plan Your Trip According To Your Interests
Before you plan your trip think about what you want to spend the most of your time doing. And be super honest about it. You don’t have to go to Pinnawala just cause everyone you know took a couple of pictures with baby elephants.
If You Love To Chill
If you want to chill, drink more and drive around in a scooter then plan your trip around Hikkaduwa and Unawatuna. These beaches have shacks, a great nightlife and Galle Fort a drive away so you can sit back, relax and enjoy the hippy culture. These are also the best beaches to surf. You’ll find a lot of surfers from all over the world who come here to ride the waves so you can take up a few classes in the morning and just spend your days at the beach.
If You Love To Trek
If you prefer sightseeing and trekking then plan your trip around Kandy and Nuwara Eliya. Personally, I thought Hikkaduwa and Unawatuna was just another beach at Goa but when I went to Nuwara Eliya it was filled with beautiful temples like the Tooth Relic Temple, Horton Plains, Botanical Gardens, Adam’s Peak, Devon Falls, Tea Plantations etc. I can go on and on about Nuwara Eliya but I think I’ll put that up in another post.
If You Wanna Go Local
Lastly, if you prefer to live like a local stay at Colombo. It’s a small city with some of the friendliest people. You’ll be surprised by the number of strangers who wish you good morning. I suggest walking all the way from Dehiwala to Galle Face Beach cause you can find a lot of hidden street art and don’t forget to visit the Shore By O for a couple of drinks by the beach. The nightlife in Colombo is pretty decent. Not the best nightlife but the people make all the difference.
I’ll be putting up more detailed posts on all these places but for starters you can make up your mind based on this. And now for the shameless plug-in
